Stay Superlinear: Review

I’m Marcus — ex-finance backend engineer, now independent, and I already build with AI daily. So when Superlinear Academy launched Stay Superlinear in August 2026, my question wasn’t “is the teaching good.” I’ve reviewed their course bundle; I know the teaching. My question was narrower: is a membership worth $149 a year to someone who already ships?

First, a correction that matters. The 30-day free Guest pass — ¥0, no card — is gone from the official site; the only public trial is a paid $1 / ¥8 pass for 14 days. But the Guest pass isn’t dead. It moved behind invite links, handed out in limited batches — and an invite still gets you the full 30 days free. We have one, linked on this page. So the old advice (“lurk free for a month first”) is only half-stale: you can’t just walk in anymore, but with an invite you still can.

What membership buys: a Circle community, 12+ closed-door masterclasses per membership year (first announced guest: Howie Xu, Chief AI & Innovation Officer at Gen, formerly SVP of Engineering and AI/ML at Palo Alto Networks), monthly live deep-dive Q&A, project showcases and a Demo Day, plus three member courses — AI Coding, Agentic AI (elective), and 真本事. What it does not buy: the flagship AI Builders core course and AI Architect. Those belong to the separately sold bundle. Know that boundary before you subscribe.

Pricing is aggressive. Founding annual is $149 / ¥999 for the first 3,000 annual members, locked on renewal, then $299/year. Quarterly runs $99 / ¥699. RMB payment currently works via UnionPay cards only; Alipay and WeChat Pay are slated for 2027. All as of August 2026 — check current pricing.

Now the honest part. This product is weeks old. Everything most valuable about it — the masterclass slate, the introductions, the Demo Day pipeline — is a promise about the next twelve months, and only the first masterclass guest has been announced. Independent reviews on Reddit or Class Central: none found. The high-value spaces sit behind the Circle login wall, so outsiders can’t gauge activity quality; the “seven spaces” the marketing references aren’t publicly itemized either. The hosts’ reputation leans on the parent course’s Maven ratings (4.9/5, 3,000+ students, per official marketing) — credible, but seller-adjacent. And the official FAQ is blunt about what you won’t get: no guaranteed referrals, clients, funding, income, or one-on-one coaching. I appreciate that sentence. Most communities imply the opposite.

There is a real free layer: the official site cites 600+ project posts, nearly 7,000 comments, and 20,000+ free members, with project-sharing and ordinary commenting open without payment. Paid adds the masterclasses, prioritized Q&A, the three courses, and — annual only — the AI Builder Space, curated Skills, and early product access. Since the paid spaces aren’t visible from outside, a trial pass — $1 for 14 days publicly, or 30 days free through a Guest invite — genuinely is the only way to inspect what you’re buying.

Alternatives: if you need a curriculum first, a structured course gets you further per hour; if you just want peer discussion, free communities exist around Hugging Face and fast.ai. This one’s differentiator is curated, host-driven feedback in a Chinese-language builder community. Either that’s your gap or it isn’t.

My verdict: a $149 founding year is a reasonable bet on two credible hosts, and the trial passes make checking the fit nearly costless — $1 for 14 days if you walk in cold, 30 days free if you use an invite. But rate it as what it is — a new membership whose core promises haven’t been redeemed yet. Try it, attend one live session, and upgrade only if you catch yourself showing up.
