Who it's for
Students needing a quick, hands-on intro to Azure ML jobs and MLflow tracking.
Who should skip it
Anyone looking for deep ML theory or experience outside the Azure ecosystem.
Pros
Provides a temporary Azure sandbox, no credit card required.
Clear, step-by-step instructions for running a basic training job.
Introduces MLflow tracking in a practical context.
Cons
The sandbox can be slow to provision.
Feels more like a product tutorial than a course on 'optimization'.
Skips over the 'why' behind many of the configuration steps.
It took a full ten minutes for the Azure sandbox to spin up. I almost closed the tab. Once it was running, the path was a straightforward click-along for submitting a training script as a command job. It's not really about 'optimizing' a model in the statistical sense, but more about using the Azure ML platform to organize training runs.
The part on MLflow was the most useful bit for me. It shows how to log metrics and artifacts directly within the job, which is something I knew was possible but hadn't done myself. The code is all provided, so you’re mostly just copying and pasting into the terminal. It's a quick way to get a feel for the workflow without committing to a full project or a paid subscription. You get a taste of the platform, but you won't walk away an expert.
