Reviewer's verdict

A solid 40-minute tour of Azure ML pipelines, but it's just a tour. It gets a lab environment running and shows you the buttons to click, which is helpful, but don't expect to understand MLOps from this alone.

Who it's for

Absolute beginners getting their first look at Azure ML pipelines.

Who should skip it

Anyone with prior MLOps or CI/CD experience.

Pros

  • Quick, hands-on lab using the Azure ML studio.
  • Clear instructions for creating and running a simple pipeline.
  • Uses the latest v2 SDK and YAML definitions.

Cons

  • Very basic; doesn't cover complex dependencies or scheduling.
  • The exercise is just a copy-paste-and-run walkthrough.
  • Knowledge check questions are too easy.

You spend more time waiting for the compute instance to start up than you do on the actual concepts. It's really just a guided tour of the Azure ML studio UI. The exercise gives you all the code; you just clone a repo and run the notebooks. It's a copy-paste job.

But maybe that's the point. It shows you exactly where to click to build a simple pipeline from two components and how to read the YAML. For a 40-minute module, that's fine. It does its job. I finished it and immediately moved on to another one about Transformers. At least the lab environment worked without any weird setup issues, which is more than I can say for some other platforms. It’s a decent way to see what the interface looks like before you commit to a bigger project.
