Who it's for
IT admins, security ops, and compliance officers already deep in the Microsoft 365 ecosystem.
Who should skip it
Developers or anyone outside the M365/Purview bubble looking for general AI security principles.
Pros
Quick overview of how Microsoft positions Purview for AI governance.
Covers a wide range of Purview products (DLP, Insider Risk, etc.).
Up-to-date with recent product naming and features.
Cons
Zero hands-on; it's a read-only product tour.
Extremely specific to the Microsoft stack, offering little transferable knowledge.
Feels like a sales pitch for turning on more Purview features.
One of our E5 bills came across my desk, which got me looking into what Purview's AI features actually do. I was hoping for some concrete implementation details for securing AI traffic—maybe a KQL query or a policy-as-code snippet. Anything beyond 'turn on Feature X in the Purview portal.' Instead, this is just a list of products and how they now have 'AI' in their feature descriptions. Communication Compliance, Insider Risk, DLP... it's a tour of the UI. I get that Microsoft has to sell its stack, but for someone building things, this offers zero technical substance. It felt like being cornered by a sales engineer at a conference. An hour-long ad for the E5 license.
