Who it's for

Absolute beginners needing a quick overview of Microsoft's AI model catalog.

Who should skip it

Anyone looking for hands-on coding, technical depth, or API interaction.

Pros

  • Quick, high-level tour of Microsoft's named models.
  • Covers a range of modalities (text, code, speech, image).
  • No setup required.

Cons

  • Purely a text-based overview; no interactive labs or code.
  • The 'exercise' is just a multiple-choice quiz about the text.
  • Feels more like a marketing brochure than a technical introduction.

I was expecting a sandbox or at least a link to a playground, but the whole thing is just text. The “exercise” at the end is a multiple-choice quiz that asks which model does what. It’s like a reading comprehension test on a product brochure. There are no labs, no code, nothing to actually try.

I suppose it gives you the official names for everything in their “Foundry” catalog. So if you’re studying for a Microsoft certification and need to memorize which model name maps to which task (speech, code, etc.), this is a fast way to cram that information. But for actually learning how to use these tools, it offers nothing. The API docs landing pages are more useful.
