Reviewer's verdict

It’s a solid 45-minute lab for the Key Vault SDK. The exercise is the only part that matters; the rest is just slide-ware. Good enough to get an app talking to a vault for the first time.

Who it's for

Developers who need a quick, hands-on tour of Key Vault SDK basics.

Who should skip it

Engineers looking for production-level patterns or advanced security architecture.

Pros

  • Live sandbox environment works well and requires no local setup.
  • Covers the core SDK commands for get/set/list.
  • The exercise is a solid, practical walkthrough.

Cons

  • Overly focused on Python; could show CLI or other languages.
  • Rotation and caching are just high-level PowerPoints.
  • Feels like the first chapter of a bigger course that's missing.

After clicking to activate the sandbox, the whole show is the exercise. You get a terminal, copy-paste some Python, and see secrets get set and retrieved from a temporary Key Vault. It works. The code isn't clever, but it proves the SDK calls function as advertised. The slides before and after are filler. The units on rotation and caching strategies are just bullet points; no code, no architecture diagrams. I was hoping for patterns on how to handle key rotation without downtime or some thoughts on managed identities versus service principals. Got none of that. It's just a quick tour of the client library. If you've never used Key Vault, this gets you from zero to one. The whole thing felt like a decent first lab that got separated from a more advanced course.
