A solid, up-to-date primer on M365 and AI service licensing. It's a useful one-hour investment for anyone new to the admin role or needing to understand the options before a major rollout, but it's not a deep dive.

Who it's for
New tenant admins, IT project managers, or solution architects needing a current overview of M365 license assignment models, especially for AI services.
Who should skip it
Experienced M365 admins, engineers looking for deep scripting/API automation.
Pros
Covers the latest AI service licensing (Copilot, Studio) in one place.
Hands-on exercise for group-based licensing is practical and mirrors real-world tasks.
Clear distinction between direct, group-based, and pay-as-you-go models.
Cons
Troubleshooting section is too brief and high-level.
Billing concepts are introduced but lack depth on cost management and optimization.
Assumes a fair amount of prior knowledge about Entra ID and admin center navigation.
Waiting for the sandbox to spin up a pre-configured tenant was worth it for the hands-on lab assigning licenses to an Entra ID security group. It walks through the exact flow in the admin center, which is something my team is debating for our Copilot pilot. The module does a decent job differentiating the three main license types for AI: the standard M365 Copilot SKU, the pay-as-you-go model for Copilot Studio, and the still-mysterious Agent 365. The content is current, which is rare for licensing documentation.
However, the troubleshooting unit felt like an afterthought. It lists common error messages but gives no diagnostic depth. I was hoping for more detail on license reconciliation or tracking usage against assigned SKUs, but it stays at the surface level. It's a good orientation if you've never touched this part of the admin center, but it won’t replace a proper implementation guide.
