Reviewer's verdict

It’s a quick product tour, not a hands-on lab. Use it to decide if you want to learn the service, but don't expect to build anything from it.

Who it's for

Absolute beginners needing a quick, guided tour of Azure's vision model APIs.

Who should skip it

Anyone looking to write code or understand the models themselves.

Pros

  • No setup required, uses a clean sandbox environment.
  • Gives a high-level overview of what's possible with the Foundry Vision service.
  • Very recent, so the UI and product names are current.

Cons

  • The 'exercise' is just running pre-written commands.
  • No real coding or model building involved.
  • Shallow content, more of a product demo than a course.

Pasting the command `foundry-tools vision describe --image-file fruit.jpg` into the sandbox terminal pretty much sums this up. It tells you exactly what to type to describe an image or generate one. There's no Python, no notebook, not even a file to edit. You're just proving you can follow instructions to call a pre-configured CLI tool. The commands work, the pictures show up, and you learn the names of the APIs. I guess that's the point.

It feels more like a product page with a command line simulator attached. I did this and the speech one back-to-back, and they have the same structure. They show you the product, you run a few canned commands in the sandbox, and then you take a quiz on what you just saw. It’s useful for maybe 30 minutes if you need to know what 'Foundry Vision' is for a meeting, but there's nothing here to put on a resume.
