Reviewer's verdict

This is a product demo, not a course. It shows you where to click to use a pre-existing feature in Fabric, but you won't learn how batch prediction works.

Data analysts needing a quick tour of Fabric's PREDICT function.

Who it's for

Data analysts needing a quick tour of Fabric's PREDICT function.

Who should skip it

Anyone looking to understand model deployment or build a real pipeline.

Pros

  • Walks through the UI for calling a PREDICT function.
  • Uses the standard Fabric sandbox, so it's a consistent experience.
  • The sandbox is free and requires no local setup.

Cons

  • The model is a pre-baked black box; you don't train or deploy it.
  • The 'Exercise' is a guided click-through, not a real task.
  • Knowledge check is trivial and tests memorization of the text.
  • Provides zero intuition for what's happening under the hood.

Waiting for the Fabric sandbox to spin up took longer than the actual content. The core of this module is a single notebook with one line of Python to copy and paste. You don't even type it. That code calls a PREDICT function on a table, and that’s the whole 'hands-on' part. You don't see the model, you don't train it, and you certainly don't deploy it. The title is 'using a deployed model,' which is technically true, but the model just materializes out of thin air, pre-registered in the workspace. It felt less like a learning exercise and more like a product tour where most of the buttons were disabled.

I get that it's a free module. But this one feels like it was designed just to check a box. It's a tour of a single UI button. The knowledge check afterward asks you things like 'What function is used to generate batch predictions?' The answer is PREDICT, the one function you just saw. It’s insulting.

Even for a beginner module, I was hoping for more. Maybe a brief explanation of why you'd use batch over real-time, or a peek at the files involved. Nothing. Just a sterile walkthrough. If you've never seen Fabric and want to see what a prediction task looks like in the UI, maybe it's worth 30 minutes. Otherwise, you're not missing a thing.
