A solid, free walkthrough of integrating Azure Cosmos DB with GenAI, ideal for a weekend project. The guided sandbox makes it easy to complete, but you won't learn much if you just copy-paste.

Who it's for
Developers with Azure access wanting a quick, guided tour of combining Cosmos DB and Azure OpenAI.
Who should skip it
Complete beginners to NoSQL or anyone looking for deep GenAI theory.
Pros
Provides a free sandbox environment
Connects two popular Azure services (Cosmos DB and OpenAI)
Hands-on exercises use the actual Azure portal
Cons
Exercises are heavily guided with copy-paste code
Assumes existing Azure and NoSQL familiarity
Sandbox can be slow to initialize
I got a 'working' RAG app running in about two hours, but the whole exercise was just copying and pasting from the instructions. It’s a free product demo for connecting Cosmos DB and OpenAI, but I'm not sure I could build one from scratch tomorrow. I had to find a separate YouTube video to understand what the Python SDK was actually doing. The sandbox also took forever to load.
