It’s a functional 90-minute primer on Azure Event Grid, not the AI workflow builder the title promises. Use it for the sandbox exercise to understand the moving parts, then find a real-world example elsewhere.

Who it's for
Developers needing a quick, hands-on intro to Azure Event Grid concepts.
Who should skip it
Anyone looking for production-ready architecture patterns or complex workflow examples.
Pros
Provides a sandboxed Azure environment for hands-on practice without setup.
Covers core Event Grid concepts like topics, schemas, and retry policies clearly.
The exercise is concrete and directly applies the concepts from the text.
Cons
The 'AI workflow' part of the title is a stretch; it's a basic pub/sub tutorial.
Only shows a single, simple event handler; doesn't explore complex routing or dead-lettering in practice.
The 'AI' connection feels like marketing tacked onto a standard infrastructure module.
I'm staring at the exercise's final screenshot, which shows a JSON payload in a Service Bus queue. I spent the last ten minutes trying to find the AI part of this “AI workflow.” There isn't one. This is just a standard pub/sub demo, a basic Azure Event Grid 101, dressed up with a new buzzword for marketing.
The sandbox environment worked, which is a definite plus. No credit card, no spinning up a resource group from scratch. You get a temporary terminal and can run the `az eventgrid topic create` and `az servicebus queue create` commands as written. The copy-paste works. You see an event go from point A to B. It covers the basics: topics, event subscriptions, the CloudEvents schema. The text explains dead-lettering and retry policies, but the exercise doesn't make you implement them. You just read about them.
My issue is the framing. If you sold this as 'Event Grid for Backend Devs,' fine. But tacking 'AI' on it sets an expectation it completely fails to meet. What's the AI service this is supposed to trigger? A model inference endpoint? A data preprocessing job for training? The module never says. It's just a generic event trigger. I could use the same pattern to trigger a notification when a user changes their profile picture. That's not AI. It's just... software. It’s good to know the parts, I guess, but I walked away feeling like I'd been had by a keyword.
