It’s a quick, free product demo for GitHub Copilot's SQL features inside VS Code. It won't teach you Postgres, but it might save you 15 minutes of figuring out the extension yourself.

Who it's for
Developers already using VS Code for Postgres who want to see the Copilot integration.
Who should skip it
Anyone looking for deep SQL optimization skills or a serious Postgres course.
Pros
Provides a sandboxed Azure environment, no setup required.
Directly shows Copilot's SQL generation in context.
Short and to the point.
Cons
The 'exercise' is just copying and pasting pre-written prompts.
Doesn't teach you how to write better prompts or critically evaluate Copilot's output.
Feels more like a Copilot ad than a PostgreSQL skills module.
The whole exercise is just copying prompts from the left pane and pasting them into the Copilot chat on the right. Hit enter, copy the generated SQL, run it. That's it. You don't write anything. You don't debug anything. You don't even have to think about what a good query would look like. It's a product tour, not training.
I get it. They want to show how Copilot can write a JOIN for you or add a WHERE clause. And it does. The sandboxed Azure environment is slick; it spins up a Postgres instance without me needing to touch my local Docker or pull out a credit card. That's the best part of the whole module. But I finished in under 40 minutes feeling like I'd just watched a YouTube ad on 1.5x speed.
The module shows you that the tool *can* generate SQL. It doesn't teach you how to prompt it effectively when the request is complex. It doesn't show you what happens when Copilot hallucinates a column name or writes an inefficient query. It just gives you perfect prompts that yield perfect code. That's not my daily reality.
So, yeah, it works. The extension is real, Copilot writes SQL. But calling this a 'development' module is a stretch. It’s a demo. A useful one if you have a spare hour and were curious, but don't expect to leave with any new database skills.
