A solid, free theoretical map for connecting Copilot Studio to external systems. Treat it as the mandatory reading before you get to the actual hands-on modules.

Who it's for
Functional consultants or makers trying to grasp the high-level decision map for Copilot Studio integrations.
Who should skip it
Developers looking for code examples or hands-on labs.
Pros
Excellent high-level overview of integration options.
Clearly distinguishes between knowledge sources and actions.
Useful decision tree for selecting the right integration pattern.
Free and very recent content.
Cons
Purely theoretical, no hands-on practice.
Feels like a prerequisite for other, more practical modules.
It wasn’t until the 'Knowledge Check' quiz that this module really clicked for me. The quiz forced me to distinguish between using an 'Agent' as an integration target versus using a 'Tool'. The questions are simple, but they clarify the architecture diagrams from earlier in the module. Before that, I felt like I was just reading a glossary.
This whole thing is basically a decision tree presented as a 45-minute module. When do you use a Power Automate flow? When do you call a REST API directly? When is it better to ground the agent with Azure AI Search instead of building an action? It lays out the options well, but it doesn't show you how to do any of it. It's pure theory, a map of the territory with no hiking involved. For instance, it talks about authentication—OAuth 2.0, API keys—but it’s just a list. You don't configure anything.
The real value here is that it organizes the other Copilot Studio modules. After finishing, I immediately understood which of the 'nearby' modules to take next. If I want my agent to actually *do* something in an external system, I now know I need the 'Take action... using connector and REST API' module. It's the required reading before the fun begins. Good that it's free, because it feels incomplete on its own.
