Reviewer's verdict

A useful 30-minute glossary of Azure AI services, but it's not a course. Read it to learn the marketing names, then find a real tutorial.

Who it's for

Architects needing a high-level Azure AI service catalog.

Who should skip it

Anyone looking for code, demos, or how-to guides.

Pros

  • Good, up-to-date map of Azure's AI offerings.
  • Clear distinction between platform vs. infrastructure workloads.
  • Introduces important non-technical concepts like governance and FinOps.

Cons

  • Zero hands-on; it's a reading assignment.
  • Extremely high-level, feels like a brochure for solution architects.
  • Knowledge check is just a vocabulary test on what you just read.

The title 'Design AI Workloads' set me up for disappointment. This isn't a design course; it's a slide deck you read by yourself. It's just a tour of Azure's product catalog. You learn what Azure AI Services are (the SaaS/PaaS layer with pre-builts) and what Azure Machine Learning is (the IaaS/PaaS layer for custom models). Then you read about governance and security. That's it.

I was hoping for a simple diagram, maybe a case study showing how a blob storage connects to a model endpoint, or even just one screenshot of the Azure portal. Nothing. The content itself isn't wrong, it just stays at 30,000 feet. It gives a decent overview of the components and correctly points you towards thinking about FinOps and security from the start. That section on creating an adoption plan was probably the most useful part, because it at least forces you to connect tools to business goals.

But the whole experience feels like studying for a vocab quiz. The knowledge check literally just asks you to parrot back the definitions of 'platform workload' vs. 'infrastructure workload.' For someone trying to actually build something, this offers zero practical steps. It's purely theoretical, an executive summary. I can see an architect using this to prep for a meeting, but if your goal is to write a line of code or configure a service, this isn't it.
