Reviewer's verdict

This is a dictionary of Dynamics 365 SCM terms. Take it to learn the labels for things you already understand, but don't expect it to teach you supply chain management itself.

Best for

New business analysts or consultants onboarding to a Dynamics 365 project.

Watch for

No hands-on sandbox; it's just a text-and-quiz module.

Who it's for

New business analysts or consultants onboarding to a Dynamics 365 project.

Who should skip it

Anyone needing to understand supply chain concepts, not just Microsoft's naming conventions.

Pros

  • Quick overview of the key terms within the Dynamics 365 SCM product.
  • Up-to-date as of mid-2024.
  • Clearly maps out the different types of 'product' records.

Cons

  • No hands-on sandbox; it's just a text-and-quiz module.
  • Teaches a vocabulary list, not a mental model of how supply chain works.
  • Feels like preparation for a certification exam, not for real-world problem-solving.

This module explained the difference between a 'Released Product,' a 'Product Master,' and a 'Product Variant.' It did not explain *why* my team would need three different records for one widget. I get that this is an intro, but it's a tour of a user interface, not a model of a business process. I walked away with a vocabulary list — storage dimensions, tracking dimensions, item groups — but no intuition for how they connect to solve an actual supply chain problem, like 'where are my 500 blue widgets?' The part on Copilot was just a screenshot and a paragraph saying it can generate product descriptions. Okay, but how does that connect to managing inventory levels or supplier lead times? It felt tacked on. I guess this is useful if you're dropped into a Dynamics project and just need to know what the buttons are called.
