Reviewer's verdict

A guided tour of the Outlook settings page. If you've ever customized an app before, you can safely skip this. If you are helping a family member who has never used a modern email client, this might be a useful link to send them.

Who it's for

Absolute beginners who have never used an email client before.

Who should skip it

Anyone who has used any version of Outlook or another email client in the last 10 years.

Pros

  • Quick overview of the settings locations in the new Outlook app.
  • Covers basic personalization like themes and signatures.
  • Knowledge check questions are simple and direct.

Cons

  • Extremely basic; it's a feature tour, not a training module.
  • No hands-on component; it's just reading about settings.
  • Could be replaced by 5 minutes of exploring the app's settings menu yourself.
  • The 'Copilot' section is just a brief mention.

The new Outlook rolled out and I wanted to see if I was missing any tricks for setting it up. Turns out, this module is just a slightly interactive version of a support page, walking you through the settings menu. I timed myself and spent maybe 12 minutes clicking through, and that was with reading everything.

The sections on themes, signatures, and automatic replies cover things you could figure out in 30 seconds by just opening the settings yourself. The knowledge check at the end was almost comical – questions like 'Where do you go to change the theme?' with the answer being, well, the theme settings. It felt less like a test of knowledge and more like a CAPTCHA to prove I was still awake.

The only part that was remotely new was the mention of Copilot for creating themes, but it was just a sentence or two. There was no real 'how-to,' just an FYI that it exists. I was hoping for maybe a power-user tip I didn't know about, some registry tweak or a hidden setting. Nope. It's strictly for someone who has maybe never seen an email client before. I probably learned more by accidentally opening the wrong settings panel in the app itself than I did from this entire module.
