Reviewer's verdict

A useful, if slightly raw, preview of GitHub's agent-building stack. It's a quick way to get your hands on the Spec Kit and SDK, but don't expect a polished, production-ready tutorial. Treat it like a tech demo.

Who it's for

Developers who already use Copilot and want to test the very newest agent-building tools from GitHub.

Who should skip it

Beginners, or anyone looking for a stable, production-ready framework.

Pros

  • Covers very new tools like the GitHub Spec Kit and Copilot SDK.
  • Hands-on exercises for building a simple agent.
  • Good conceptual overview of spec-driven development.

Cons

  • The tools are extremely new and feel like pre-release software.
  • More of a product tour than a deep engineering course.
  • Less about building robust agents, more about using GitHub's specific new tools.

The GitHub Spec Kit module is the whole point. The rest is just context. You're basically writing YAML files to describe your API, then letting an agent figure out how to call it. It works, sort of. The exercises get you to build a simple agent that can... check the weather. Groundbreaking.

The Copilot SDK part feels even more like a preview. You're embedding agents directly into an app, which sounds great, but the tooling is clearly not finished. There's a lot of boilerplate for a simple result. I spent more time trying to get the environment set up than actually writing agent logic.

It feels less like a course and more like extended release notes for an alpha product. Useful if you need to know exactly what GitHub is shipping right now. Just don't expect it to solve any real problems for you today. It's a map to a place that's still under construction.
