Who it's for

New managers, PMs, and business stakeholders needing a quick AI strategy primer.

Who should skip it

Engineers, data scientists, or anyone looking for technical implementation details.

Pros

  • Provides a clear, high-level strategic framework.
  • Connects AI initiatives to business outcomes, not just technology.
  • Very fast to complete.

Cons

  • No hands-on component or real-world examples.
  • Stays at a 30,000-foot view; lacks depth.
  • Heavy on Microsoft-centric terminology.

The AI strategy unit felt like reading my own team's planning slides, just with Microsoft logos. It nails all the right points: align with business goals, secure your data, manage the culture. It's a solid checklist. But it stays at that checklist level. There's no story about a company that failed because its data strategy was a mess, or one that succeeded because its AI governance was tight from day one. Just a series of diagrams and bullet points.

For a product manager, it's a useful 20-minute vocabulary sync. I can walk into a meeting and know the difference between their 'AI Strategy Experience' and our 'Customer Journey Map'. It gives you the structure to ask intelligent questions of the engineering team. But it won’t tell you how to actually build anything or make a difficult tradeoff. It’s a map, not a vehicle.
