A useful, hour-long manual for a very specific tool. It shows you which buttons to press for the AI-powered schema converter in VS Code. Just don't expect it to teach you migration strategy.

Who it's for
Data engineers or DBAs facing a specific Oracle to Postgres migration task on Azure.
Who should skip it
Anyone looking for a deep dive into database theory or a general AI-in-DB course.
Pros
Walks through a very specific, practical workflow using a real tool.
The 'AI' part is concrete: schema conversion and Copilot for fixes, not just buzzwords.
Hands-on exercise provides a sandbox to try the VS Code extension.
Cons
Scope is extremely narrow; it's a tool manual, not a course on migration strategy.
The happy-path exercise doesn't prepare you for the mess of a real-world, decade-old Oracle schema.
Assumes you already have the whole Azure/Oracle environment set up.
A client was asking about moving a legacy Oracle database to Postgres on Azure, and I wanted to see how much of the grunt work could be automated before quoting the job. This module popped up.
It isn't a course. It's a glorified manual for one feature inside a VS Code extension. The whole thing took maybe 45 minutes. The 'AI-powered' part is less magic than it sounds. It's basically an advanced parser that translates Oracle DDL to Postgres DDL and flags the parts it can't figure out. The interesting bit is the integration with GitHub Copilot agent mode to help fix the flagged issues. The exercise has you run through this process on a sample schema. It works, of course. It's a clean, prepared sample.
My main issue is that this happy-path demo gives a false sense of security. Real-world Oracle schemas are full of proprietary functions, weird data types, and years of undocumented hacks. The tool will likely choke and produce a laundry list of errors. This module shows you *how* to use the tool to see those errors, but it doesn't prepare you for the *work* of actually fixing them. It's a good first step to see what the tool can do. But if you think you'll just press a button and migrate a 15-year-old financial database over lunch, you're in for a surprise. It's a starting point, not a finish line.
