A quick, hands-on product demo disguised as a course. It shows you the buttons to click in Fabric to build a simple data agent but doesn't build any real understanding of the underlying concepts.

Who it's for
Data analysts inside companies already using Fabric who need a quick product tour of a new feature.
Who should skip it
Beginners trying to learn what an LLM agent or an ontology actually is; anyone without a Fabric account.
Pros
Walks through the clicks to create and publish a Fabric data agent.
The exercise provides a hands-on feel for the user interface.
Last updated recently, so the interface screenshots match the current product.
Cons
Does not explain the 'why' behind ontologies, just treats them as a data source.
The 'test and validate' step is superficial; it works because the setup is trivial.
Relies on having an active Microsoft Fabric environment, which isn't a given for self-learners.
After clicking 'Create' to build the data agent, I stared at the data source options: Lakehouse, Warehouse, and... Ontology. What even *is* an ontology? The module never really gets into it, treating it as just another menu item. The exercise hands you a prepopulated one in a workspace and asks you to click through the steps. The instructions are all 'go here,' 'select this,' 'copy-paste this prompt.' There’s zero thinking involved. You’re just following a recipe to see a new feature light up.
I finished in about 45 minutes. The 'test and validate' part felt like a magic trick. You ask the agent a natural language question, and it spits out the right answer—but only because the question was practically written for the single table in the ontology it could see. There is no exploration of what happens when it fails, how to debug it, or what makes one ontology better than another. It's all happy path, all the time.
I suppose if your manager told you to learn about Fabric data agents over lunch, this module checks that box. I came away feeling like I'd just watched a marketing video where I had to click the 'next' button myself. It didn't give me any transferable skills. I still have no idea how I'd build a useful ontology from scratch, which seems like the actual hard part.
