This is a product tour, not a technical tutorial. It shows you what the service *can* do if you click the right buttons in the right order. Skip if you already know how to navigate the Azure portal and want to learn how to actually build a RAG system.

Who it's for
Developers who need a quick, guided tour of the Azure portal UI for setting up a basic Cognitive Search pipeline.
Who should skip it
Anyone looking to write production code, understand the APIs, or customize the AI skills beyond the canned options.
Pros
Provides a clean, temporary sandbox environment so you don't use your own Azure credits.
Shows the end-to-end flow from data source to indexer to knowledge store in the portal.
The exercise uses a real-world-ish scenario (hotel reviews).
Cons
Almost zero code. The exercise is entirely point-and-click in the Azure portal UI.
The 'AI skills' are just pre-built black boxes you check off a list.
Doesn't cover REST API usage, which is how you'd actually build this.
Too much time spent waiting for the environment to deploy and then clean up.
I clicked 'Activate sandbox', went to get coffee, and came back to find the resource group still provisioning. The actual 'work' was just following a recipe in the Azure portal: click 'Import data,' point it at the sample blob storage, check off a few built-in AI skills like key phrase extraction, and hit run. No code, no APIs, no sense of how this works under the hood. You're just connecting wires on a GUI.
I get it, it's a one-hour module. But calling this 'Create a knowledge mining solution' feels like a stretch. It's more like 'Watch Azure create a solution for you.' You don't learn how to debug a skill, write a custom skill, or call the index from an application. I finished the exercise and my main takeaway was knowing where the buttons are. If my goal was to build a real RAG app, this didn't get me any closer.
