Reviewer's verdict

A solid beginner project that delivers a working app in a few hours. It’s more of a guided build than a deep learning experience, but it’s great for getting your hands dirty with Power Apps and Azure AI for the first time.

Who it's for

Beginners wanting a quick win connecting a Power App to an Azure AI service.

Who should skip it

Developers looking for a deep dive into speech models or Power Fx.

Pros

  • Follows a real project from start to finish.
  • Clear, step-by-step instructions that are easy to follow.
  • Introduces both Power Apps and Azure AI in a practical context.

Cons

  • Relies heavily on copy-pasting code snippets.
  • Doesn't explain the 'why' behind many of the Power Fx formulas.
  • Azure setup can be tricky if you've never used it before.

Getting the Azure Speech service key to connect felt like a small victory. The instructions are very specific—copy this, paste that—which is great for getting it done without errors, but I didn't feel like I learned much about *why* the Power Fx formulas worked. It’s a guided build, not a course on app development.

I spent more time waiting for the Azure resource to deploy than on the actual Power App logic. The whole thing took me closer to two hours, not three. It's a satisfying project because you end up with something tangible. I have a working translator on my phone now. I just wouldn't be able to build a different one from scratch without going back to the instructions. It’s a good confidence-builder, though.
