Reviewer's verdict

A skippable product demo disguised as a training module. Watch a few YouTube tutorials on Clipchamp and Designer instead; you'll learn more in less time.

Who it's for

Absolute beginners curious about Microsoft's creative AI tools and their basic functions.

Who should skip it

Anyone with prior video editing experience or looking for deep technical skills.

Pros

  • Quick overview of how Microsoft's AI tools (Copilot, Clipchamp, Designer) are intended to work together.
  • The exercise gives a feel for the workflow, even if it's very guided.
  • No cost to explore the basic features of these tools.

Cons

  • Very superficial; more of a product tour than a real skills tutorial.
  • The 'post-production' angle is weak; it's mostly basic trimming and applying canned effects.
  • No real problem-solving or creative challenge involved.
  • The sandbox environment is slow and feels disconnected from a real project workflow.

I sat there watching a spinner, wondering if my browser had frozen. It was just the exercise unit's sandbox, which took forever to load, all to get into a simulated Clipchamp environment that was slower than the real thing. It really sets the tone for the whole module: a lot of waiting for a very simple payoff.

The idea is to show a 'smart postproduction' workflow for a music video. You're supposed to use Clipchamp to trim footage, Designer to generate some B-roll visuals, and Copilot to... well, to write prompts for Designer. It's less a creative partnership and more a game of telephone between different Microsoft apps. The tasks are incredibly basic. The 'editing' is just dragging the ends of a clip. The 'enhancing' with Designer is picking a pre-made style for an AI-generated image. I never felt like I was solving a post-production problem, just clicking where the instructions told me to click.

Compared to the other 'vision' modules, this one feels the most like an advertisement. The previous one, 'Build the vision,' at least had you generating the initial assets. Here, you're just polishing something that barely exists. It shows you that the tools are connected, but doesn't give you any skills to use when the guided tour ends. I didn't walk away with a better understanding of editing theory or even advanced prompting. I just learned what buttons Microsoft wants me to press in its ecosystem.
