Reviewer's verdict

A skippable corporate pamphlet disguised as a course. It's free and quick, but your time is better spent on almost any other resource that offers concrete examples or ethical dilemmas.

Who it's for

New business users needing a quick overview of Microsoft's specific RAI terminology.

Who should skip it

Anyone looking for technical details, case studies, or actionable implementation guidance.

Pros

  • Completely free and very short.
  • Introduces Microsoft's six specific RAI principles (fairness, reliability, privacy, etc.).
  • Links out to other, slightly more substantial modules.

Cons

  • Extremely superficial; reads like a corporate mission statement.
  • No hands-on components, no real-world examples, no code.
  • The 'Knowledge Check' is a simple vocabulary quiz.
  • Doesn't teach you how to 'do' responsible AI, only what Microsoft calls it.

The 'Follow the Responsible AI Standard Playbook' unit has a great title, but it's just a slide. It doesn't actually show you the playbook. The whole module is like that. It feels less like a course and more like a 25-minute press release that Microsoft formatted into a Learn module, complete with a knowledge check that just makes sure you read their brochure.

I was hoping for at least one concrete example. Maybe a simplified case study of how a biased dataset in Azure Machine Learning was identified and mitigated. Or how the 'Guidelines for Human-AI Interaction' were applied to a real feature in Microsoft 365. There's none of that. You just read about abstract goals. The module talks about that 'Playbook' but doesn't walk you through a single play. I came away knowing Microsoft's six keywords for RAI—fairness, reliability, privacy, etc.—but with zero understanding of how to apply them, or even what a failure looks like in practice. It’s like getting a pamphlet on 'safe driving' that only lists the words 'steering, braking, signaling' without ever showing you a car.

It's free, so I guess I can't complain about the price. But my time isn't free. I could have watched a good 20-minute YouTube video from a researcher discussing an actual AI ethics failure and learned ten times more.
