Reviewer's verdict

It’s a 20-minute read that feels like a long-form ad for Microsoft Copilot. It won't teach you anything you can't learn from a quick search, and offers no practical skills.

Who it's for

Absolute beginners needing a quick, high-level overview of generative AI concepts.

Who should skip it

Anyone looking for technical details, hands-on practice, or content beyond a basic blog post.

Pros

  • Extremely short, can be completed in one sitting.
  • Introduces basic terminology like 'LLM' and 'generative AI'.
  • Links out to other relevant Microsoft Learn modules.

Cons

  • Superficial content, feels like a product brochure.
  • No hands-on activities or coding.
  • The 'Knowledge Check' is trivial and doesn't test real understanding.
  • Reads more like marketing for Microsoft Copilot than a genuine educational resource.

It’s just text. You read a page, click next. Read another page, click next. I thought maybe the 'Apply Generative AI' sections would have a small sandbox or a prompt-writing exercise, but it’s just more descriptions of what you *could* do with Copilot. It's like reading the back of a cereal box to learn about nutrition.

The knowledge check at the end was the most disappointing part. It was just three multiple-choice questions that basically ask if you were paying attention to the bolded terms. Did I learn what a large language model is? Sure, in the sense that I read a one-paragraph definition. But I couldn’t explain how it differs from a traditional model or why tokenization matters. The module doesn't go there.

I get that it's an 'intro,' but this feels less like a course module and more like a prerequisite for a sales webinar. The content about applying critical thinking is ironic, because the module itself requires very little. You just passively absorb marketing points about Microsoft products. There are YouTube videos that cover this same ground in 10 minutes with better examples. I honestly can't see who this is for, unless your manager assigned it to tick a box for 'AI training'.
