This is a product tour, not a course. It shows you *where* the buttons are in Azure OpenAI Studio for custom voice, but you won't build anything or train anything.

Who it's for
Absolute beginners wanting a high-level tour of Azure's TTS studio interface.
Who should skip it
Anyone looking to actually build a custom voice or write code.
Pros
Quick overview of the custom voice training workflow in Azure.
Introduces key terminology like phonetic and prosodic features.
Clear, easy-to-read text, typical of Microsoft Learn.
Cons
The title 'Forging Voices from Data' is misleading; there's no data and no forging.
The 'exercise' is just a multiple-choice knowledge check.
Feels like an interactive product brochure, not a training module.
The title 'Forging Voices from Data' sounded like a hands-on lab. I thought, finally, I could upload some audio files and train a simple custom TTS model, even a tiny one. I had a small dataset ready from a side project, hoping to see the process in action.
There is no data. There is no forging. This is a text-based tour of the Azure OpenAI Studio UI. You read about the architecture of dialogue systems, you learn the names of the menus, and then you answer a five-question multiple-choice quiz they call an 'exercise'. That's it. It’s a guided walkthrough of screenshots.
I finished the whole thing in about 35 minutes while listening to a podcast. I learned that Azure has a 'Custom Voice' project type and that you need to prepare a dataset with scripts and corresponding audio files. I learned that it checks for phonetic and prosodic quality. But I could have learned all that from the official documentation page in five minutes. The module adds very little value beyond turning docs into a step-by-step slideshow.
Don't get me wrong, it’s a clear and well-structured slideshow. It's just not training. You don't interact with the studio, you don't use any data, and you certainly don't 'build' a dialogue system. It's an advertisement for a powerful, expensive Azure feature, packaged as a learning module.
