Reviewer's verdict

This is a product demo disguised as training. It shows you where the 'AI' switches are in Dynamics 365 Finance, but you won't learn how they actually work.

Who it's for

Who should skip it

Developers or anyone expecting to build or customize the underlying ML models

Pros

  • Walks through the exact UI steps for enabling the features.
  • Gives a high-level sense of what the 'AI' features are supposed to do.
  • Module is up-to-date with the current Dynamics 365 interface.

Cons

  • Zero hands-on work; it's a guided tour of screenshots.
  • Doesn't explain the data integration project beyond 'click here'.
  • You don't build anything or interact with any real data or models.

The 'Create a data integration project' unit sounded promising, but it's really just a description of a template. There's no data. There's no code. I didn't get to connect anything or see what a failed connection looks like. The module walks you through a series of UI screens to enable three features: customer payment predictions, cash flow forecasting, and budget proposals. It’s a tour of toggle switches.

The part on 'improving your predictions' is where it really falls apart. It tells you to check a box for 'late payment predictors' based on things like industry and location. Okay, but what data source is that pulling from? Does my organization need to supply it? Is Microsoft enriching it? Nothing. It’s treated like magic. They mention that an AI model is being created in the background, but you have no visibility into it. You don't know the features it's using, the accuracy, or the failure modes. For something as critical as cash flow, just trusting a black box you enabled by clicking 'next' feels reckless.

I finished this in under an hour. It showed me where the buttons are. It did not teach me how to 'set up' finance insights in any meaningful engineering sense. I can now tell a PM 'yes, that feature exists,' but I'm no closer to implementing it reliably.
