Reviewer's verdict

A high-level configuration guide disguised as a training module. It's useful for understanding the moving parts if you're already a D365 consultant, but impossible to follow for anyone without a provisioned environment.

Decision summary

2.7/5 Last verified: August 31, 2026

Best for

Functional consultants or administrators already deep in the Dynamics 365 ecosystem

Watch for

No actual hands-on environment; it's a read-and-recite module

Who it's for

Functional consultants or administrators already deep in the Dynamics 365 ecosystem

Who should skip it

Developers or anyone without access to a D365 Commerce environment

Pros

  • Provides a structured overview of connecting D365 Commerce, Omnichannel, and Copilot Studio
  • Explains the different configuration paths (Omnichannel vs. Power Virtual Agents)
  • Content is up-to-date as of its last refresh

Cons

  • No actual hands-on environment; it's a read-and-recite module
  • Assumes you have a pre-existing, fully configured D365 environment, which is unrealistic for independent learners
  • The 'exercise' is just reading instructions, not implementing them

Proactive chat parameters assume a Commerce headquarters tenant I do not have. The instructions say to configure triggers in a Dynamics 365 Commerce headquarters environment that I simply don't have access to. The whole module is built on this assumption. You need a live D365 subscription, Omnichannel for Customer Service provisioned, and a configured Copilot Studio bot. Without that stack, you’re just reading a manual.

I was hoping for practical insight into how copilots get integrated into enterprise e-commerce, but it’s purely an administrative walkthrough. You learn about setting up triggers for cart value or time on page, and you see the architecture diagrams showing how Omnichannel acts as the hub. The distinction between using the direct Omnichannel integration versus the Copilot Studio (formerly Power Virtual Agents) path was clear, which I appreciate. That's the one part I actually bookmarked.

But without the ability to click through the Commerce site builder or see the Omnichannel admin center for myself, it all remains abstract. It feels like a video tour where you can't touch anything. I spent more time trying to figure out if I could get a trial environment to follow along (spoiler: it's not straightforward) than I did on the module itself. The exercise unit is just a wall of text, not a sandbox.
