Reviewer's verdict

A quick product tour dressed up as a tutorial. It's useful for seeing what the Foundry portal looks like, but you won't learn how to build anything from scratch.

Who it's for

Students needing a quick, official 'hello world' for Microsoft's agent stack.

Who should skip it

Anyone looking for agent theory or practical coding skills beyond copy-pasting.

Pros

  • Extremely short, can be finished quickly.
  • Uses official Microsoft tooling (Foundry, VS Code).
  • Lab provides a concrete working example.

Cons

  • Mostly a marketing tour for a new product.
  • The lab is just copy-pasting a skeleton project.
  • Doesn't teach any agent design principles.

The lab is basically a single Git command. You clone a repo, open it in VS Code, and that's the agent. It works, which is more than I can say for some tutorials, but calling this 'developing' an agent feels like a real stretch. It’s just a pre-built example.

The rest of the module is text explaining what an agent is and what Foundry does, with lots of screenshots of the portal. It’s useful if you've never heard of Foundry before and just need to know what buttons to click. But I was hoping for something that explained *why* the code was written that way or how to modify it for a different task. This isn't it. It's more of a quick start guide than a real lesson.
