Reviewer's verdict

It's a quick product tour, not an 'advanced' skills module. Fine for a first look, but don't expect to learn how to wield Copilot like a pro.

Who it's for

Absolute beginners who have never seen Copilot's chat or slash commands before

Who should skip it

Anyone who has used Copilot for more than a week

Pros

  • The Codespace setup is smooth and works out of the box.
  • Introduces core features like /fix, /tests, and inline chat.
  • Doesn't waste your time; it's very short.

Cons

  • The term 'advanced' is misleading; these are day-one features.
  • The sample app is a trivial Flask API, offering no real challenge.
  • Doesn't cover anything truly complex like multi-file context or strategic prompting.

This module calls itself 'advanced,' which is a serious stretch. It's really just a tour of the basic commands you find on day one: `/fix`, `/tests`, `Explain`. The whole thing is built around a toy Flask app that does almost nothing. The main exercise has you add a single endpoint to retrieve a product by ID. Copilot nails it instantly. Then you use `/tests` to generate a unit test for that new endpoint. It works. The end. I get it, this is an intro, but calling it 'advanced' feels dishonest. True advanced usage is about wrestling with the context window, feeding it just the right multi-file selections, and architecting prompts to refactor complex logic across a real codebase. It’s about knowing *when* Copilot is hallucinating a plausible but wrong solution, not just accepting the first thing it spits out for a textbook problem. This module doesn't touch any of that. The Codespaces environment did spin up fine, so credit where it's due. Zero setup friction. But the task was so simple that it didn't teach me anything about Copilot's limits or how to push them. It just confirmed that, yes, the tool can solve FizzBuzz-level problems. If you've never used the chat sidebar in VS Code before, this 20-minute click-through is a decent first look. Otherwise, it's a skip.
